Registration
Seating is limited to 275 attendees at a fee of $50 per person. Invitees, please register online by January 11, 2008. After January 11, there will be open enrollment until we reach capacity. 

Online registration is now closed. Walk-ins will be welcome until we reach capacity.

Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your registration, please be aware that there is a $35 cancellation fee. Cancellation requests should be submitted in writing (via email, letter, or fax) to the MSU Land Policy Institute by Monday, February 4, 2008.

The remaining conference fee balance due you or your organization will be returned to you following the Summit. Cancellations submitted after February 4, 2008, will not be eligible for a refund.

Lodging
The Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, located on the east side of Harrison Road, between Michigan Avenue and Kalamazoo Street in East Lansing, is holding a block of hotel rooms at a special guest room rate for this event of $89 (single or double occupancy) until January 11, 2008.

When making your reservation, please indicate that you are attending the Building Prosperity Growing Michigan Summit to ensure that you receive the special rate. Individual attendees are encouraged to make reservations directly with the Kellogg Hotel reservations line at 1.800.875.5090 or with the hotel at 517.432.4000, between the hours of 8am and 7pm, Monday through Friday.

Exploring some of the key issues related to land use is the focus of these break-out discussions. These are intended as a follow-up to the keynote presentation to enable additional reflection, discussion, and sharing of information that relates particularly to the Michigan context and the experiences of attendees.

This special award, presented on behalf of the Michigan State University Land Policy Institute and the Michigan Land Use Funders, honors the distinguished recipient for outstanding contributions to the future of land use in the state of Michigan.

Presented by Senator Patricia Birkholz, 24th District, 2007 Land Use Leadership Excellence Award Recipient     

1pm  - 1:20pm The Regional Landscape and Lens
An Overview of preliminary findings from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation's People and Land (PAL) regional scan analysis will be presented and will provide groundwork for the sessions to follow.

1:20pm – 1:45pm Break

1:45pm – 3pm The Regional Lens and Landscape: Taking a Closer Look
Building on the preliminary findings from the PAL regional scan (listed above), the following break-out sessions will provide participants with an opportunity to reflect and share information, perspectives, and updates with other leaders from across various regions. These facilitated discussions will entail exploring key questions related to and building on the regional scan.

  • Northeast Michigan/Huron Shorelines
  • Northwest Michigan/ Upper Peninsula
  • Southeast Michigan
  • West/Southwest Michigan
  • Statewide/Land Use Lounge

3pm – 3:15pm Break

3:15pm – 4pm Bringing it All Together
Highlights and thoughts from the regional break-out sessions will be shared, as well as commentary on critical areas of challenge and promise for moving forward in a more collective sense and toward a more common vision for change.
