Zebra Mussel is an invasive species that was introduced to the Great Lakes Region around 1985 via the ballast water of ships. This species is thought to be a native of the Caspian Sea Region of Asia. It was first spotted in Lake St. Clair. It can clog municipal water system intake pipes and change the ecological balance of local waters.
